Policies and Guidelines

Ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors while protecting our natural resources, please observe the following guidelines:

Trail Use and Safety

  • Trails are open from dawn to dusk
  • Stay on marked trails to protect sensitive habitats
  • Pets must be leashed at all times and waste must be removed
  • No motorized vehicles on trails
  • Bicycles are permitted on designated trails only

Wildlife and Plant Protection

  • Do not feed or approach wildlife
  • Do not remove, damage, or collect plants, flowers, or fungi
  • No hunting, trapping, or fishing
  • Observe wildlife from a respectful distance
  • Report injured or distressed wildlife to park staff

General Conduct

  • Pack out all trash—Leave No Trace principles apply
  • No fires, smoking, or alcohol
  • Keep noise levels low to respect wildlife and other visitors
  • Groups of 10 or more should contact us in advance
  • Commercial photography requires prior authorization

Educational Programs

  • School groups must be supervised by teachers/chaperones
  • Advanced registration required for all educational programs
  • Program cancellations will be communicated via email
  • Some programs may have age restrictions or prerequisites

Monthly Board Meetings

The Demarest Nature Center Association Board of Trustees meets monthly to discuss operations, programs, and conservation initiatives.

  • Schedule: Third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM
  • Location: Demarest Nature Center Meeting Room
  • Public Welcome: Community members are encouraged to attend
  • Agenda: Available on our website prior to each meeting
  • To add items to the agenda or speak at a meeting, contact us at least one week in advance
