Annual Event Highlights
Maple Syrup Making
When: Late February - Early March
Experience the traditional process of tapping maple trees and transforming sap into delicious syrup. This beloved annual tradition includes demonstrations of tree tapping, sap collection, and the boiling process. Families can observe every step and sample the final product!
This free community event is one of our most popular programs. Registration typically opens in January.
Bird Watching & Bird Counts
When: Year-round, with special counts in spring and fall
Join fellow birding enthusiasts for guided bird watching sessions throughout the year. Participate in official bird counts during spring and fall migration seasons, and help contribute valuable data to bird conservation efforts. Binoculars and field guides provided for beginners.
All skill levels welcome, from curious beginners to experienced birders.
Oktoberfest Craft Show
When: October (specific date announced each summer)
Our signature fall fundraising event features local artisans, craft vendors, food, music, and family-friendly activities. This beloved community tradition supports our educational programs and preserve maintenance. Browse unique handmade items while enjoying the beautiful fall foliage!
Vendor applications typically open in early summer. Proceeds support DNC programs.
Mushroom Foraging Walks
When: Spring and Fall
Explore the fascinating world of fungi with expert mycologists. Learn to identify edible and poisonous mushrooms, understand their ecological roles, and discover the incredible diversity of mushrooms in our preserve. These walks combine science, safety, and the thrill of discovery.
Limited capacity. Registration required. Please note: foraging is for educational purposes only.

Walk-Ins Welcome
Many of our trail walks and community events welcome walk-in participants. Check individual event listings for details.

- Pets: For the safety of wildlife and other visitors, pets are not permitted at events unless specifically noted.
